DAVIDSON, NC, August 2, 2023 – Edwin had the privilege to attend the Unity In Community North Mecklenburg Large Group meeting on July 29th at the DUMC Chapel, located at 302 South Main Street, Davidson. He was deeply moved and inspired by the dedication and authenticity displayed by the panel.

The theme of the event, “Navigating the Crossroads: Faith, Beliefs, and Social Justice,” couldn’t have been more fitting. The distinguished guest panel, which included Rabbi Becca Diamond of Temple Kol Tikvah, Imam John Ederer of the Muslim Community Center, Rev. Anita Harvell from Union Bethel AME Zion Church, and Rev. Peter Henry of Davidson College Presbyterian Church, shed light on the importance of standing in solidarity with marginalized communities, especially during these challenging times. The event was skillfully moderated by Rev. Aurrita Lee Wilson Payne from the UiC Board of Directors.

Edwin was especially taken aback by the panel’s openness and dedication to fostering a genuine understanding of one another’s perspectives. “The honesty, transparency, and depth of the discussion was an affirmation of the importance of dialogue in bridging our societal divides,” commented Edwin.

Furthermore, the impressive turnout of attendees showcased the community’s deep-seated commitment to unity and social justice. The diversity of those present was a testament to the collective desire for inclusivity, understanding, and positive change.

As a proud member of the social justice committee, Edwin stated, “Being a part of such a dedicated and diverse community initiative is truly an honor. I am eager to continue learning from the leadership of Unity In Community North Mecklenburg and to actively participate in furthering our shared goals.”
